I recently bought the American Case Continental for two violins. I rate this case as below average. While it is a stylish looking case with a fair amount of protection this case lacks one extremely important component. Namely the case lacks sufficient space for transporting the shoulder rests and even an extremely small tuner. The storage compartments in the case are so small that even some containers of rosin might be too big to fit in them. In my estimation a good violin case will provide good protection for your valuable instrument, have sufficient space to store those items such as shoulder rests and tuners that are as necessary to playing as the violin and the music, and should have space for a limited amount of storage. For those female musicians in large cities on mass transit carrying too many bags at one time makes you a target for muggers. Figure that a woman with a large case and a purse does not want to have to carry a bag of shoulder rests and tuner/metronomes as well. Pictures in catalogues and online do not adequately show the paucity of space in the continental double.
