This knife has a very interesting history. It was designed by the son of a Case employee out the Bradford, PA area. It crossed my desk at a time I was doing patent and trademark work for American Brands, Inc., which owned Case. I believe the US patent that was ultimately issued by the USPTO was on the son's name. My small contribution was to point out to my superiors at American Brands the design was the property of th3e son, and just because his father worked for Case did not mean Case was entitled to any rights in the knife. They immediately realized rights would have to be obtained from the inventor--the son, and with the help of our outside law firm, that happened. I bought one of the knives shortly after they were offered by Case and still have it and the box. It is a bit beaten up, since I used it for all sorts of things over the years. But I was always happy this was not one of those corporate American greed things where the company appropriated something without paying the rightful owner simply because it came to light through a Case employee.
